With Apple’s move to the Lightning port in the iPhone 5, along with their new stringent rules placed on third-party accessory makers, finding even the simplest accessories has become next to, if not, impossible. Even getting your hands on an extra Lightning cable can be difficult.
One of the most common accessories for iPhones has been the dock. Apple has yet to release one of their own, but with a little time, effort, fun, and LEGOs you can create your own iPhone 5 dock. Using only 42 LEGO pieces and Lightning cable, you can make your own fully customizable LEGO iPhone 5 dock. Using the LEGO Digital Designer, the folks over at The Daily Brick have posted instructions you can download that include a LEGO parts list.
Getting your hands on the exact parts needed can prove difficult if you don’t live near a LEGO Store, but you can also order the necessary bricks individually via LEGO’s online store. We priced out this DIY LEGO iPhone 5 using the online store and it came to $7.70 USD plus $4.95 shipping bringing the total cost for your awesome LEGO iPhone 5 dock to only $12.65 shipped. However, LEGO is stating that due to “unforeseen circumstances”, delivery on these orders could take beyond the normal 13 to 18 business days.
