This morning Rovio, the studio behind the best-selling franchise Angry Birds, made it official: the best-selling mobile game will be partnering with the best-selling movie franchise of all time. Angry Birds: Star Wars will be hitting the App Store and Google Play on November 8.
Your favorite angry feathered friends will be assuming the personalities of the heroes of the Star Wars universe, with the red bird assuming the role of Luke Skywalker. The other feathered heroes will assume the roles of other Star Wars characters such as Han Solo, C-3PO, Princess Leia, and Chewbacca, to name a few. Those annoying, egg-stealing pigs will assume the roles of our favorite Star Wars villians such as Darth Vader and stormtroopers. Paul Southern, Vice President of Marketing for Lucasfilm, toldĀ USA Today:
You will see a pig-esque Vader and pig-esque stormtroopers. They are not Angry Birds dressed up as Star Wars characters. They are characters in their own right.”
The Star Wars universe is also home to some of the most iconic places and settings. Angry Birds Star Wars will not disappoint here, as planets like the barren Tatooine and the frozen Hoth, along with others, will be making appearances. The game will rely heavily on the same new game mechanics (gravity fields, etc.) found in the last major release, Angry Birds Space.
Thanks to Rovio for hopefully giving the term Millenium Falcon a whole new meaning.
